When speaking to the camera, it's important to speak fluently, avoiding "Ers" and "Ums". That's more difficult than it sounds and, if you've already tried you hand at making a video, you'll know what I mean.
The secret of success is to copy the professionals and use a teleprompter. So here are two free teleprompters with which you can produce professional results – and it won't cost you a cent.
Check out the URL below and you will be able to download some free teleprompter software. This can run on your computer, whilst you are filming.
Movie Clip Prompt
Here's a picture of my computer running this software. You'll see it's positioned just in front of the camera. This allows me to read from the teleprompter and yet appear to be looking straight into the camera.
This gives a far more professional effect than if you were to read off notes, where your eyes would be constantly darting down to the paper.
That is a free version of the software and, as such, is naturally somewhat limited. However, once you've tried it and found it useful, you can buy the full package for $44.
If you have Microsoft Powerpoint, an alternative method is to type your script on a series of slides. Provided you have a mouse with a long lead, you can change the slides as you progress through the script with just a click, which will not be apparent to the audience.
