Business Success - What A Clairvoyant Once Told Me

Who would have thought a clairvoyant would know about business success?

It's a paradox, but those with the highest failure rate tend to also be the people with the greatest success in business. But don't think it was plain sailing for some famous names. 

As Akio Morita, founder of Sony Electronics said about failure:

“Everybody makes mistakes” and  “Move forward and do what you think is best. If you make a mistake you’ll learn something. But don’t make the same mistake twice”.

You may be thinking: "It's easy for him to say. Sony is a massive global corporation." 

Yes, it is. . . NOW. 

But, in the early days, don't you think Akio faced just the sort of fear of making a mistake you probably face right now? But he managed to confront his fear, face down his demons and triumph.

And, right at the heart of a reluctance to make a mistake, is fear.

This usually shows itself by procrastination. You feel you can't quite start a new project until everything is just right. You feel you need a bit more capital. Or you need just a little bit more information. Or the moon is in the right phase and so on.

The reasoning goes something like this: get everything in place and your chance of making that dreaded mistake will be nil.

The problem is there is rarely a time when things are just right.

My Mother in Law was a great one for fortune tellers and the like and she would regularly get this old lady round to her house to tell the fortune of everyone in the family. 

One day I chanced to be there, and this lady looked me in the eye and said something rather profound, which took me many years to appreciate the depth of wisdom in the short sentence.

She said. "Forget about IF".  Just three words with a world of power in it. 

So.  Don't say: "IF only . . . I was a bit better at writing . .  or speaking . . . or doing math" . . . or whatever skill you feel stands between you and success. Forget If  – just go for it!
